A caravan for everyone
September 7, 2009
Back in the old days, you could have any variety of caravan you liked, provided it was made of painted plywood and had a tar roof. Now the choices are dazzling, with consumers able to pick everything from streamlined pop-tops up to three-axle palaces on wheels.
For many people, the best van is the smallest they can comfortably live with. A smaller caravan – especially a pop-top – means less wind resistance, less towing weight, lower fuel consumption and less stress on the towing vehicle. In addition, a smaller caravan is easier to manoeuvre and gives you more choice of sites at caravan parks.
Of course, “small” is a relative term. While for some a single-axle pop-top is ample compared with tent accommodation, others consider a van with all the mod-cons small compared with a house.
